A Guide To Cantilever Racking

What is cantilever racking?

Cantilever racking is a heavy duty storage system made from vertical uprights and horizontal cantilevered arms.

What is the purpose of cantilever racking?

Cantilever racking is designed to store, for lack of a better term, awkward materials. Anything that is very wide, bulky, heavy or otherwise difficult to store on, say, pallet racking systems, may be suitable to store on cantilever racking.

Having said that, you can also store standard pallets on cantilever racking if you so wish. Keep in mind that you can only store 1 pallet per rack, so this may not be the most effective solution for your storage needs.

What are the components of cantilever racking?

Bases, upright columns, arms and braces. Bases are the stabilising component, they connect to the vertical upright columns. Arms and braces connect to the uprights to complete the cantilever racking. Braces attach to uprights to provide horizontal and diagonal support , while arms extend outward to provide support for materials to be stored.

Why use cantilever racking?

There are a number of reasons to use cantilever racking, let's discuss below.

A huge benefit is that you can store materials that are much wider than the cantilever racks, since there are no vertical braces causing obstruction.

Another pro of cantilever racking is how easy it is to install and reconfigure, if necessary.

Last but not least, cantilever racking provides storage and accessibility for those awkward and bulky materials, as discussed above.

Should you opt for cantilever racking?

The decision is ultimately up to you. Here at Azil Racking & Shelving, we recommend opting for cantilever racking if you need a storage solution for difficult and/or bulky items. If this is not a concern for you, then perhaps pallet racking could be the storage system you need!
